The Lynwood Park Nursery was started around 1946, a few years after the Little Red Schoolhouse was started. With the leadership of Mrs. Minerva Bennett, the 36 ladies sewing club raised money for building materials and supplies. The nursery was built by men from the community. The original nursery was built on the same property donated to the community by Ms. Cates. The nursery was built in front of the Little Red Schoolhouse and the front faced Mae Avenue, it was a 2-room building that was heated by coal and wood burning stoves. The nursery did not have running water or inside toilets. The nursery had a screened in front porch. There was no playground equipment except for a large sandbox, this area was fenced in. Several people from the Lynwood Park Community worked as caretakers at the nursery. Mrs. Bertha Jones, Mrs. Estell Scott, Mrs. Maggie Ezzard, Mrs. Wood and my other ladies from the community worked at the nursery.
Later in the early 1970’s the nursery as it stands today was built by the community to replace the original nursery. This nursery served the Lynwood Park Community for several decades.
